….the root of all evil. Or is it the lack of money that is the root of all evil?
In the normal course of things, one has to work to earn money. But those who have money do not even have to work, yet their money works for them.
What about if you do not have work, and you also do not have money? That is when one has the choice to find ways and means to earn money, the hard way or the smart way!
One Vietnamese paid for a US advertisement, where he is clad in an Armani suit in front of a beautiful house, flanked by two blondes clad in bikinis, as they posed beside a silver custom-made Rolls Royce Excalibur, proclaiming: “I came to America a refugee with nothing; I was able to make it rich. Look at me, you want to be rich like me? You have a choice: the hard way or the smart way. If you choose the smart way, attend my seminar!”
Time and time again, we hear of people making it rich — by winning the lotto, finding a hidden treasure, or marrying a rich foreigner, etc. But it is sad to note that according to some pundits, the one way to make big money in the Philippines, the legal way: organize a religion or enter into politics.
When talking about religion, no one can argue against the fortunes of those who head or those who are the leaders of a religion. Why, they even call their head office The Palace. To top it all, they have tax-exempt status.
Those who enter politics have to invest time, money, and effort to ingratiate or to make their names visible to the public.
In addition, they have to connect with the incumbent powers-that-be, or to the kingmakers, people who do not run for public office, but who finance or manage political campaigns like a business franchise. So what gives?
Money makes the world go round, and no money, no honey! Like my mom used to say: ”Love goes out of the window when you do not have paniudto!”
Indeed, do you buy into the pronouncements that a candidate won without money? Tell that to the marines!
In fact, some mirons at the Painitan at the public market opined that it was P-Noy who allowed the release of the P480 million calamity fund, and financed the sure victory of one candidate.
But the supporters of the candidate say he won without shelling out money. Which theory do you buy?
Filipinos have a deep faith in God. Their innate religiosity enables them to comprehend and genuinely accept reality in the context of God’s plan. To Filipinos, success is a blessing from above. But God helps those who help themselves.
Money, they say, plays a big part in the elections. Ug wala kay nanampiling, ikaw maoy manampiling human election! (He who does not have the currency with Ninoy’s picture will be the one with the long face after the elections)
