The Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital, including the Central Block, would have more hospital beds, Gov. Roel Degamo announced.
The Governor said Wednesday he would ask the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to appropriate P100 million as initial amount for the construction of an additional 1,000-bed capacity building so that more patients can be accommodated.
His statement comes following the provincial government’s receipt of an eye center worth P16 million, donated early this week by the Fred Hallows Foundation of Australia.
The amount for the proposed additional beds can be taken from the 20 percent economic development fund, the governor said.
He said he is hopeful that the Department of Health will have a counterpart of P100 million or a total of P200 million for the initial phase.
The Governor said the Central Block of NOPH is no longer enough, as he noted the overflowing of patients every day, especially with the implementation of the zero-balance payment, and with his desire to improve the services by acquiring sophisticated equipment such as the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and CT (computed tomography) scan to be located in one building.
He said he is optimistic that in the upcoming Executive and Legislative Agenda meeting of the provincial government, the participants will focus and align themselves with the vision of his administration to uplift the quality of life of every Negrense, “by making strategies and interventions with approval of the new Provincial Board”.
The ELA meeting will take place in July, after the assumption of newly-elected and re-elected provincial officials. (Juancho Gallarde)
