More paper bag days @ Fortune Mart

For the last three months, Fortune Mart has been implementing the ‘Wednesdays are Paper Bag Days’ program with much success. The impressive statistics they gathered showed that every Wednesday, an average of 2,900 paper bags of different sizes were used — that’s 2,900 throw-away plastic bags not polluting Mother Earth, or 11,600 per month, or 139,200 plastic bags per year.

Because the month of May is when we celebrate mothers, and to honor and respect the mother of us all, our Mother Earth, Fortune Mart is expanding the program to include two more days — Tuesdays and Thursdays — starting the month of May.

The question begs to be asked: “When are the other business establishments in Dumaguete, especially those with a Corporate Social Responsibility, following suit?”

We ask everyone to reflect on Mother Earth, and support Fortune Mart’s commendable program. We also remind you all to make a habit of bringing your own shopping bags. Our Mother Earth needs all the help you can give.
