The Negros Oriental Tourism Council has scheduled more than 50 events for this year’s Buglasan Festival, set on Oct. 17-26 at the Sidlakang Negros Village along EJ Blanco, at the Freedom Park fronting the Capitol, and along the Rizal Boulevard.
This year’s festivity theme is Community Development through Tourism.
“The theme is patterned after the world tourism theme Tourism and Community Development,” said Dr. Nichol Elman, Buglasan coordinator.
On opening night on Oct. 17, highlights are the opening of the Heritage Booth at the Capitol Forecourt, awarding of the Outstanding Oriental Negrense and the Miss Negros Oriental Tourism, and a fireworks display by DSS Fireworks at the Capitol grounds.
The opening of the Sidlakang Negros Village LGU Heritage Booths is scheduled on Oct. 18.
Local showbiz personalities such as Regine Velasquez, Alden Richards, and other Kapuso stars will be gracing the celebration during the GMA Kapuso Fiesta on Oct. 21 at Freedom Park.
On Oct. 24 is the showcase of the various festivals of different cities and towns in Negros Oriental during the Buglasan Festival of Festivals Street Dance Competition along the streets of Dumaguete, followed by the Buglasan Festival of Festivals Showdown at the Lamberto Macias Sports & Cultural Center, and the Buglasan King & Queen Pageant at Freedom Park.
On the weekend of Oct. 25 and 26 along the Dumaguete boulevard is the Fireworks Display Competition by manufacturers from here and abroad — one of the most-awaited events during Buglasan. (Winona Agir and Richelle Osumo/SU Masscom interns)
