A road accident late Wednesday evening ended the life of a young champion motocross racer, after his motorcycle hit a pickup truck along the national highway in Boloc-boloc, Sibulan town.

Enzo Nicolai Teves, 16 years old, was declared dead by 3:41 am by attending physician Dr. Idell Yurong of the Silliman Medical Center. Enzo is the youngest son of Provincial Board Member Arnulfo Teves Jr., president of the Association of Barangay Captains.

Initial police investigation disclosed that a Ford Ranger pickup truck was crossing the highway at median line going south to Dumaguete when a customized 125 cc motorcycle that Teves was driving appeared, driving north from the opposite direction, hitting the passenger door on the left side of the truck. Due to the impact, Teves sustained heavy damage on his body; his motorcycle broke in three.

The Ford Ranger owned by Aynie Mandajoyan Dizon was being driven that time by her husband Alejo Dizon Jr., a resident of Villa Pastora Subd. in barangay Batinguel.

Witnesses said they saw a tricycle negotiating the highway along Boloc-boloc going south to Sibulan and that it was cruising at moderate speed ahead of a motorbike. Minutes later, they noted that the motorbike overtook the tricyle, hitting a pickup truck.

Sibulan Police Chief Sr. Insp. Nelson Lamoco could not give other details while further investigation is being conducted, including answers to questions if there was a drag-race happening at the time of the incident.
