MANILA — The Metrobank Foundation Inc., in partnership with Probe Media Foundation Inc., will hold the Metrobank Foundation Media Training in Journalism for professional journalists on June 28 at Hotel Essencia in Dumaguete City.
In this particular forum, Multimedia Journalism will be tackled by 2013 Metrobank Foundation Journalist of the Year (JOY) awardee Malou Mangahas, host of GMA News TV’s Investigative Documentaries, and executive director of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism.
Under the Metrobank Foundation Fellowship Program in Journalism, a series of media training seminars will be implemented in selected areas to advance the knowledge of practicing journalists and media organizations; discuss current issues, concerns, and challenges facing the profession; and provide the participants with techniques to enhance their craft.
During the program’s inaugural implementation, full-time journalists will learn about multimedia journalism, and its differences and similarities compared to traditional media. The discussion will also center on assessing one’s readiness to shift from traditional to multimedia platforms as tools in news reportage. It will also tackle how the key elements of a multimedia piece can come together to achieve a solid and balanced story.
Participants will also be provided with tips and guidelines for creating their own multimedia pieces, and the ethics and laws one must be aware of. Strategies and techniques, as well as samples of multimedia work, will also be shared to showcase the industry’s current best practices.
“We are determined and committed in raising the bar of excellence in the practice of journalism in the country. Journalists are beacons of hope. They can inspire the public to actively participate more in the democratic processes through their work. They are the nation’s eyes, ears, and conscience. You cast a light in the darkness and show a way by telling the story honorably and fearlessly,” said MBFI President Aniceto M. Sobrepeña.
