The Negros Athletic Association is introducing a new sport in the competitions starting December. The girls and women’s 3 on 3 or Tagotlo Women’s Basketball tournament will be a highlight, said Dr. Aparicio Mequi, organizer of Tagotlo.
Sponsored by Smart Communications, Tagotlo was inaugurated at Robinson’s Dumaguete Atrium in July.
The event is the first ever 3-on-3 women’s basketball competition organized within the rules and regulations of the French Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball, commonly known as FIBA, Mequi said.
The new women’s basketball league bears the primary mission of promoting gender equity in Philippine sports.
Mequi said the NAA organizing committee guarantees that this year’s games, including Tagotlo, are more accessible and have cheaper entry fees. This is also to ensure that NAA will remain a sustainable sports league in the years to come. (Angela Bacang)
