NegOr crime rate down

The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office has reported a decrease in the crime volume from January to May this year, as compared to the same period last year.

At the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting, PSSupt Raul Tacaca of NOPPO reported that the crime volume is comprised of 79 index crimes and 318 non-index crimes.

Tacaca attributed the decrease in crime rate to the intensified joint coordination with other law enforcement agencies and the active participation of the community that include police visibility and other anti-crime activities caused crime incidents in Negros Oriental.

NORPPO noted a total 397 crime incidents in May, which is a 40 percent drop from the 665 in the same period last year.

He said index crimes decreased by 100 incidents, non-index crimes dropped by 168 incidents, that total crime volume decreased at 268.

Physical injuries top crimes at 23 incidents, followed by theft with 15, robbery 12, murder four cases, rape nine cases, motornapping with eight cases, and homicide with two cases.

Supt Tacaca also said traffic-related incidents at 181 largely contributed to the crime statistics.

Non-index crimes as violation of special laws reached 110 incidents and other non-index crimes went 27, to contribute to the total crime volume.

For non-index crimes or offenses punishable by the Dangerous Drugs Act and Special Laws netted 34 drug personalities arrested and 39.09 grams of shabu seized. This forms a total street value of more than P461,262.00.

On the campaign against illegal gambling, the police arrested 21 persons and confiscated bet money amounting to P9,544.

As for the campaign against loose firearms or RA 8294, PNP arrested four persons, confiscated eight firearms, and accomplished five surrendered fire-arms.

Col. Tacaca also said police recorded 70.53 percent crime clearance efficiency against 78.95 percent then and 64.48 crime solution efficiency versus 74.59 as against the same period last year. (jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
