The municipality of Amlan in Negros Oriental has received the Pamana ng Lahi Award of the Department of Interior & Local Government, making the town the official representative of Region 7 (municipal category) to the national search.
Also, two cities and four municipalities in Negros Oriental recently earned the Seal of Good Housekeeping from DILG, the agencies program for local government units “to aggressively scale up interventions to elevate the practice of governance that values transparency, accountability, participation and performance into an institutionalized status.”
The awardees for the Seal of Good Housekeeping are the cities of Canlaon and Tanjay and the municipalities of Amlan, Bacong, San Jose and Dauin, according to Rose Mascariñas, capacity development division chief of DILG-7, in an interview with Dumaguete reporters.
The said LGUs also received the Performance Challenge Fund of the DILG, which qualifies them to receive additional funding for development projects.
Amlan LGU received P1-million for the Performance Challenge Fund and another P1-million for the Pamana ng Lahi award.
Tanjay and Canlaon each received P3-million for the awards while the four towns of Bacong, San Jose and Dauin also got P1-million each for the Performance Challenge Fund.
This Seal of Good Housekeeping aims to “recognize LGUs with good governance performance in internal housekeeping particularly on four areas, namely 1) Good Planning; 2) Sound Fiscal Management; 3) Transparency & Accountability; and 4) Valuing of Performance Monitoring”, the DILG said.
LGUs with the Seal of Good Housekeeping qualified for the Performance Challenge Fund for LGUs being handled by the Bureau of Local Government Development.
