Six pupils from Negros Oriental qualified in the Philippine Science High School System Search for Scholars for 2014. They include three from West City Science Elementary School (Oellyssa B. Arbas; Chris Allen R. Calibo, Jarelle Stacey M. Detalla), one from ABC Learning Center (Joni Jerl A. Partosa), and two from Bayawan City S&T Education Center (Alessandra Gwen B. Rizada, Estenard Jhay D. Tuazon).

They were among the 90 qualifiers for Central Visayas as reported by the PSHS-Argao Campus in Cebu. A total 1,231 examinees, out of 22,661 applicants nationwide, passed the one-step screening administered in October 2013.

PSHS scholars enjoy free tuition, free loan of textbooks, plus a monthly stipend. Depending on their financial need, they also receive uniform, transportation, and living allowances. The principal qualifiers have until Feb. 7 for pre-enrollment. (Gilbert Arbon)
