The Department of Tourism Officials from Manila Central Office and Cebu Regional Office visited Negros Oriental to conduct the Tourism Strategic Planning Seminar — Workshop from August 8 to August 9, 2012 at the Sidlakang Negros Village Conference Hall. The said seminar — workshop outputs will be the basis in the crafting & formulation of the Provincial Tourism Development and Roadmap.
Resource Speakers are Warner Andrada of the DOT central office, who presented the current global and national tourism trends and issues in connection with the National Tourism Development Plan; Judilyn Quiachon of DOT VII; Rebecca Villanueva — Labit, Puerto Princesa Chief Tourism Operations Officer, who discussed the role of local government units in tourism development and Atty. Lucas Nunag, Chairperson of Bohol Provincial Tourism Council & Tourism Infrastructure Economic Zone Authority Board Member, who are shared the private — public partnership & participation.
A number of representatives from the hotels, resorts, travel and tours, restaurants, dives shops, the transportation sector, the academe; tourist police; the province’ tour guides, mountain guides, town and city tourism officers, engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways, city & town councilors, board members, heads from the various provincial & national agencies and the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials participated in the seminar -workshop.
The said activity was initiated by the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental under the leadership of Gov. Roel Degamo through the Negros Oriental Tourism Office headed by Myla Mae Bromo — Abellana in partnership with the Tourism Educators Council of Negros Oriental & Siquijor headed by its President & SPUD Director for External Affairs, Rafael Duhaylungsod, who acted as the Local Project Coordinator together with Lorraine Gamboa, Tourism Staff as Local Assistant Project Coordinator.
During the opening program, Negros Oriental Governor Roel R. Degamo said tourism industry stakeholders & partners should not compete but complement each other and that he requested the participants to make a well-crafted roadmap in order to put Negros Oriental in the tourism map. Meanwhile, Board Member Melliemoore Saycon, SP Chair on Tourism together with Board Member Erwin Michael Macias also assured the participants of their legislative support particularly the said tourism roadmap.
