Aside from celebrating the 76th Charter Anniversary, Dumaguete City also commemorated the liberation of Negros Oriental from the Spanish rule 126 years ago on November 24 in a ceremony held Sunday morning at the Manuel L. Quezon Park.
Mayor Felipe Antonio B. Remollo paid tribute to the courage and heroism of our heroes who fought valiantly to liberate our beloved homeland from the Spanish occupiers, many of them paying the ultimate price of losing their lives so that their sons and daughters will live and thrive in a free nation.
The assembled students, descendants of Negrense heroes and members of different organizations offered flowers at the bust of Don Diego dela Viña, considered the liberator of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental from Spanish rule, in appreciation of their patriotism and valor.
NOACAA President Professor Penn T. Larena, who organized the commemoration program acknowledged all those who participated and supported the annual activity. (PR)
