A tide of change has swept Siquijor Province with the victory of Liberal Party candidates in top provincial and municipal slates.

With political patriarch Cong. Orlando Fua Sr., bowing out of the political scene in this election, the Fua dynasty is cracking at the seams, with the defeat of two of his three sons who are occupying powerful positions.

Gov. Orlando “Shane” Fua Jr., lost to Dr. Jay Pernes, who had died on the eve of the elections. Pernes was substituted by his wife, Anne, also a medical doctor.

Provincial Board Member Orville Fua, the Lakas NUCD gubernatorial candidate, lost to LP candidate Jecoy Villa.

Lazi Mayor Orpheus Fua, meanwhile, survived his reelection bid.

Another Fua in the Provincial Board, Orlando Fua III, represents the Sangguniang Kabataan.

The vice gubernatorial post in Siquijor was won by singer-actor Fernando “Dingdong’ Avanzado (LP), after he beat Provincial Board Member Arturo Pacatang of the Lakas NUCD party.

The Liberal Party also captured the top political posts in three of Siquijor’s six towns: Enrique Villanueva, Larena and the capital town Siquijor.

In the town of Larena, the LP also captured all eight seats in the municipal council.

The Lakas NUCD, on the other hand, continued to hold sway over the towns of San Juan, Lazi and Maria, holding on to six of the eight seats in the municipal council.
