The Department of Environment & Natural Resources-Negros Island Region announced on Tuesday that the agency is deliberating on a new scheme involving families in helping government restore forest cover in the country.
Regional Director Al Orolfo disclosed a workshop among DENR regional directors is scheduled within this week to further discuss the salient features and other essential points of the new program.
According to him, this was among the discussions during the national gathering of DENR regional directors in Dauin, Negros Oriental late last week.
Under the Sustainable Integrated Area Development of the DENR, the agency is shifting from the involvement of people’s organizations to a family-based approach in tree-growing and tree-planting endeavors, Orolfo said.
The DENR has already issued a department administrative order with guidelines on this, although there are many points that not yet “clear”, according to Orolfo.
Some concerns to be further deliberated on include the accountability of the families who would join the program, and the assistance from the DENR, like livelihood, for these families, Orolfo explained.
During the recent gathering of DENR regional directors in Dauin, they also tackled the different programs and projects of the agency under the leadership of Sec. Regina Lopez.
