The Regional Tripartite Wage & Productivity Board in Region 7, comprising the Central Visayas provinces of Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor, will be meeting in Dumaguete City on Thursday to resume discussions on pending petitions for another round of wage adjustment.
Atty. Maria Gloria Tango, regional director of the Department of Labor & Employment in Region 7 and chair of the RTWPB-7, disclosed on Wednesday during an interview with Dumaguete reporters that the discussions will focus on determining a supervening condition or conditions that warrant another pay hike.
According to her, there are currently two pending wage petitions in Region 7, namely, that of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines pushing for a P90 across-the-board adjustment, and the other, by the Alliance for Progressive Labor (APL) seeking a P120 across-the-board increase.
Representatives from the Department of Trade & Industry, the National Economic Development Authority, government, management and labor sectors and other RTWP members are expected during the meeting set at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at a hotel in downtown Dumaguete.
Atty. Tango explained that the wage board is going around the region to hold similar dialogues to determine if there is, indeed, a supervening condition for another round of wage increase considering that the last round of salary adjustment has not even reached a year yet since Sept. 22, 2011.
