The National Food Authority provincial office has given assurances for a sufficient supply of rice in Negros Oriental during the lean months.
As of June 7 this year, NFA-Negros Oriental had a total rice equivalent of 96,716 bags stored in its three warehouses (two in Dumaguete and one in Guihulngan) as shown in current records, a media release approved by NFA provincial manager Dr. Carlos Cortes said.
The inventory can last for 15 days, based on NFA’s daily requirement of 6,600 bags.
With NFA’s average daily sales at 494 bags, the same inventory can last to as much as 196 days, the news release added.
This means that NFA is ready to respond to all needs, especially in calamity-stricken areas.
The sufficient supply of rice is attributed to the massive procurement of palay produced by local farmers and the shipment of NFA rice from Cebu City.
Another shipment of rice for Negros Oriental is scheduled next month. (PNA/JFP)
