LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — I have nothing against casinos even though I’m not a gambler. I’ve lived more than half my life where there are casinos, big ones, and the idea has never bothered me. The cities where they are, have taken care of the needs of its people. However, the proposal to build a casino in Dumaguete City does bother me and immediately, without much deliberation, I am against it. And why am I against it?
Well, for me it’s really just simple, pretty much like why I am against 174—none of the local administrations, including the current one, so far, have improved Dumaguete City. The city has so many problems that even if the present leaders were to be kept in office another twenty years, they will not be fully solved. So why go straight to creating 174? Why dream of having a casino?
In Visayan we say, “Ug manilhig man gani ka, abanira pod. Ayaw laktaw-laktaw!” I understand that the local administration has to accept the proposal, look it over, and put it through the motions. So, do that, but never forget that you still have to show your worth with all the problems the city has available for you to solve. In Visayan, it is, “Pakalaki sa mo aning mga problema nga dugay na kaayo diri sa Dumaguete. Unya na mo pagdamgo ug casino. Ug maayo mog agi sa siyudad puhon, basi moduyog pa ninyo ang mga tawo.”
“Moingon dayon mo nga muhatag na ug trabaho sa katawhan kay daghang walay trabaho. Wala gyoy mohisgot nga ang rason nga daghang walay trabaho kay gasubra na ang populasyon. Walay birth control o sex education man lang. Sigi lang ug panganak. I-address kuno usa na nga problema, ha!”
There are so many other problems that you all know (but some never get involved with) have not even been touched on by the administration. So, ayaw sa huna-huna ug casino. Unya ra ba gyud, dili mo maayong mo tukod ug mga bag-ong dalan, mga parkingan, ug bisan ang pag atiman sa traffic. Unya, casino? Sa Batinguel? Unsa pay laing mudaghan sa siyudad ug naa nay casino? BASURA! Gatu-o dagway mo nga nasulbad na gyud and problema sa basura diha sa Dumaguete? Ug mao na ang inyong pagtu-o, gamata ra mo ug morning diay.
And tubag sa pangutana kun maayo bang magtukod ug casino diha sa Dumaguete dili matubag sa simple lamang nga YES or NO! Angay ning huna huna-on sa makadaghan. Edukado man kaha tang mga Pinoy, so, atong gamiton ang atong nakuha sa pag-eskuwela! Dili ta magbinutol!
