Gov. Roel Degamo has directed Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, director of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, to leave no stone unturned in investigating the shooting of a parking attendant in front of a hospital in Dumaguete City Tuesday.

Whoever is the victim, he or she should be treated equally, Degamo said. He also called on the gunman to surrender, and said the provincial government is willing to help the suspect if he reveals the name of the mastermind.

Jesus Bulpat Fabe Jr., 33, of San Isidro in Tanjay City, was in his workplace in front of the Silliman University Medical Center when he was shot four times at around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino, Dumaguete police chief, said that Fabe sustained gunshot wounds in his legs, right arm and abdomen, but was able to go inside the hospital and admit himself.

He added that the gunman, who shot Fabe at close range, fled after the incident. The police recovered two spent shells of a .45 caliber revolver at the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Dumaguete City Vice Mayor Alan Gel Cordova Cordova said yesterday he is planning to create a specialized office or department to cater to peace and order concerns.

In a privilege speech, he said it pained him to hear about an ordinary parking boy being shot so brazenly in broad daylight and yet, the community is silent about it.

Cordova said he has yet to hear from groups that usually decry and lambast crimes like this, including the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

He said that on August 5, 2011, a prominent member of the community, lawyer Archer Martinez, was also murdered in broad daylight, but until now, the taskforce that was created to solve that case has not presented results.

“Now, another broad daylight shooting incident occurred. If we have a short memory and indifferent to situations like these; the next time we know is, we are the next victims, including our families, our friends and relatives,” Cordova said.
“It’s about time we seek accountability. It’s not enough to say the best is being done; we need to see results because we cannot just turn a blind eye on these criminalities”, he added. (PNA)
