The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative is encouraging senior citizens to avail of the five percent discount on their electric bills. The senior citizen discount will only be given to member-consumers that have a maximum consumption of 100 kilowatts or less.

According to NORECO 1 General Manager Juveleo Acabal, the discount is valid only to senior citizens who are member-consumers of NORECO-1 as one of the privileges they offer to their member-consumers.

Under the, law senior citizens are entitled to certain percentage discounts in products and services.

Acabal is also advising the member-consumers who are senior citizens to present their Identification card upon payment of their electric bill.

Bais City Vice Mayor Luciano Benlota commented that the senior citizen discount should be 20 percent, the same with the purchase of medicines and basic commodities. He said senior citizens should enjoy the discount privilege.

But, Acabal clarified that they are just following what is mandated by law.

Meanwhile, NORECO 1 is also offering a reward to individual who can report an electric pilferage case in their area. A reward of P500 is given to the informant upon confirmation of the report, with an assurance of confidentially of the identity of the informant.

The member-consumer who reported the pilferage will also enjoy a 20 percent discount in their electric bill payment.

Acabal said they are strongly campaigning against electric pilferage because it is one of the causes of systems loss, one of the charges included in the electric bill for every member-consumer of the electric cooperative. (PNA/JFP/Maricar Aranas)
