The main campus of the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete may soon be transferred to the campus in Bajumpandan, to give way to the development of the main campus into commercial spaces.
NORSU President Dr. Joel Limson issued the statement on the occasion of NORSU’s 15th anniversary last week.
He said the plan includes the construction of a commercial building along Real St. upto the Perpetual Help Church area.
Limson said a feasibility study is going on to commercialize a portion of the main campus and provide parking spaces to the public.
It also has plans of constructing a hotel with a function room that can accommodate 500 or more persons. According to Limson, the hotel can also be a venue for on-the-job trainings of graduating students in Hotel Management.
Limson said it is also the opinion of the Board of Regents to transfer some of the programs to Bajumpandan campus where construction of at least 60 classrooms is ongoing, in preparation for the transfer in 2022.
Phase 1 of the ongoing infrastructure development of the Main Campus 2 in Bajumpandan costs P8 million.
Limson added his administration is exploring the possibility of a private- public partnership or availment of loan packages, depending on the results of the feasibility study. (Juancho Gallarde)
