After the Dumaguete City fiesta celebration comes another festive affair, a five-day 85th Founders Day celebration of Negros Oriental State University from Dec. 1 to 5.
The highlight is Hugyawan, a merrymaking competition presented in street-dancing on Dec. 5 and entablado-sayaw on Dec. 4. This year’s Hugyawan theme is Broadway — the Musical.
First day marks the alumni homecoming. Second day has arts, culture and science & technology exhibits; groundbreaking ceremony of a building project of the Federation of University Parents Teachers Association at the open court of the main campus.
There will also be a cover stage/roofing project at NORSU in Bajumpandan on Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m. The project is sponsored by Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria. Other activities are the torch parade and opening of students’ booths. Mr. and Miss NORSU 2013 Pageant starts at 7 p.m.
On Dec. 3, the highlight is the university academic convocation with Cong. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara as guest of honor and speaker. Angara is chair of the Committee on Higher & Technical Education, and is also a member of the NORSU Board of Regents.
Other activities include the awarding of outstanding alumni, MOA signing between NORSU and UP-Diliman Consortium for the BS Geology Program; professorial lectures, choral singing competition, and modern & sport dance/ballroom competitions.
On Dec. 4, there will be invitational games for volleyball women and basketball men between NORSU and Silliman University teams.
On Dec. 5, the activities include the military parade in the morning. There will be a fireworks display and Students’ Night. (NORSU PR)
