Faculty, staff. and students at the Negros Oriental State University are being polarized by their stand on issues surrounding their president, Dr. Don Vicente Real, with both groups claiming they are right.
One group, led by a member of the Board of Regents, Roche Cabanlit, who heads the NORSU Federated Faculty Association, presented a manifesto in a press conference two weeks ago with over 120 signatures calling for the investigation of Real by the Office of the Solicitor General for various anomalies.
The group was bolstered by the announcement by Dr. Peter Dayot, NORSU vice president for Research & Administration, that he was withdrawing his support for Real. Dayot also asked Real to step down as NORSU president “to save the institution”.
On the other hand, the NORSU Information & Publicity Office presented signatures of some 650 members of the faculty, administration, and staff in support of Real.
Marx Iturralde, director of the NORSU IPO, said these signatures were collected in a transparent, honest, and non-coercive manner over a month-long period when the allegations made against the Dr. Real was at its height. “Up to this time, not any of the signatories in the attached pages have requested for their names to be excluded from this list,” Iturralde said.
The Office of the Solicitor General , on the other hand, conducted an investigation on the alleged anomalies of Real last week. The results are expected to be announced soon.
