The Negros Oriental State University Board of Regents has asked President Don Vicente Real to explain the construction of a speech laboratory at the NORSU Bayawan City campus costing P6.9 million without a public bidding.
Dumaguete Councilor Nilo Sayson, member of the Board of Regents, said the Board has sent Real a memorandum dated June 20 directing him to explain why he should not be meted disciplinary action, a report aired over SkyCable News said. The memorandum was issued by BOT chair Minella Alarcon.
The NORSU regents had earlier asked the Solicitor General to conduct a preliminary investigation against Real, which, Sayson said, gives the President due process. The Regents requested for an investigation from the Office of the Solicitor General as they believe it is improper for them to investigate their President as they are a policy-making body, Sayson was quoted as saying.
Marx Iturralde, director of the NORSU information & publications office, said Real continues to profess innocence to the charge of dishonesty and abuse of power, and welcomes any investigation of sorts.
Iturralde continued that Real is hopeful that the Board of Regents will listen to reason and that he has faith that the truth will prevail. (AP)
