The National Statistics Office is now ready with its 818 enumerators and 360 team supervisors to conduct the survey for the Census of Agriculture and Fishery.
NSO statistician officer Ariel Fortuito said the survey will start on Feb. 25 and end on April 13 in 557 barangays in the Province.
Fortuito met the different agencies involved to gather commitment and request farmer associations to inform their member-stakeholders to cooperate in the census.
Conducted every ten years, the CAF is a large-scale government undertaking that inventories the country’s agricultural and fishery resources. This survey is useful in making more significant decisions in terms of maximizing the use of these resources.
The importance of this census is to collect basic information on the kind of crops planted, area planted to each crop, kind and number of livestock and poultry raised, kind of species cultured in aquafarms, and fishing activities which are useful to investors, farmers, and fishermen in planning the quantity and types of commodities to be produced, said NSO head.
This years’ census, distribution and structural characteristics of agriculture and fishery sectors will be determined because this will serve as the framework for the country’s development programs, said Fortuito.
For wider awareness on the importance of gathering the data on the latest information on the agriculture and fisheries sectors, Fortuito asked local government units and concern agencies to put up streamers.
Fortuito also appeals to barangay officials to assist field interviewers by informing household-residents to make themselves available on the scheduled date of the survey.
To facilitate also the efficient conduct of the survey, Fortuito asked the households to leash their dogs to prevent incidence of dog bites of enumerators as experience in the previous survey. (PIA)
