St Paul University 4th grader Sara Francine Olendo grabbed the limelight in the just concluded Gov. Carlito S. Marquez 2012 National Age Group Visayas Eliminations held in Kalibo, Aklan.
Olendo landed second place in the 12-under category, just one step away from the champion (Alexis Suede of Makati City) who defeated her in the final round.
However, Olendo stood ahead of her other rivals from Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Roxas, Aklan and Zamboanga City to earn a slot in the National Age Group Grand Finals which will be held in Tanuan, Batangas on April 23 to 30.
The respective winners in the grand finals will represent the country in International Age Group Competitions such as the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2012 in Sri Lanka.
Sara is the daughter of Negros Club 64 Club vice president, Mart Olendo.
Meanwhile, the third consecutive year of this monthly edition will now be focused to the executives, set on April 29.
