The Diocesan Electoral Board of the Diocese of Dumaguete will launch the One Good Vote campaign September 2 at the Foundation University in Dumaguete City, Msgr. Julius Heruela, DEB convenor, said during the meeting of its executive committee to reactivate the board for the 2016 elections.
He said the One Good Vote is an election campaign of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting nationwide, the local chapter of which he also chairs, and is a member of the DEB.
OGV is a flagship program of the PPCRV to focus on voters’ education, and will center on voting with a conscience and the rejection of vote-buying, Heruela said.
The launching will coincide with the university convocation where officials of the local Commission on Elections have been invited to speak on the coming synchronized polls.
After the launching, the OGV campaign will be piloted in Valencia town, where students shall be trained to handle voters’ education, he added.
It will also be spread throughout the diocese, touching base at the grassroots level through the parishes and the Basic Ecclesial Communities, Heruela said.
The DEB is scheduled to convene as a whole middle of next month for its formal reactivation, with Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes and Comelec provincial elections supervisor Eddie Aba giving messages.
DEB members include the Comelec, Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of Education, non-government organizations and the media, among others.
Aside from voters’ education, the pre-election activities of the DEB will include monitoring of election materials and equipment, training of the Board of Election Inspectors on the use of the automated voting machines alongside Comelec, and the holding of candidates’ fora, among others.
Heruela said more activities will be identified in the coming months, especially with the filing of the certificates of candidacy on October 12-16 this year. (PNA)
