Oriental Negros Emergency Rescue Foundation Inc.-Emergency Medical Services (ONE Rescue) is enhancing its capacity to respond to disasters and calamities in the Province with the addition of two ambulances donated by the Northern California Ambulance Service through the Silliman University Alumni Association of Northern California.

A memorandum of agreement for the donation was signed last week by Dr. Gerald Nazareno of NorCal Ambulance and Dr. Gary Nazareno of the SU Alumni Association of Northern California, with SU President Dr. Betty Cernol-McCann and Atty. Jose Riodil Montebon, president of ONE Rescue.

ONE Rescue-EMS was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a foundation in 2008, initiated by businessman Edward Lee of Lee Plaza who wanted to establish a sister unit of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation Inc. of Cebu.

ONE Rescue’s first ambulance was bought by the Lee family; the second ambulance was donated by the Lee and Sy families through 1st Dist Cong. Jocelyn Sy-Limkaichong.

ONE Rescue’s ambulances are equipped with cardiac monitors and other personal protection equipment which were donated in 2018 by Dr. Gerald Nazareno of NorCal Ambulance Service.

NorCal Ambulance is a private customer service company in the US which partners with hospitals and healthcare systems to “provide emergency medical care and solve their transportation challenges”.

Dr. Kenneth Coo, one of the directors of ONE Rescue, lauded the Nazareno brothers for their support. He recalled they also donated uniforms and other medical equipment to ONE Rescue in 2017.

ONE Rescue-EMS has been responding to an increasing number of medical and trauma cases, including emergency and transport calls.

Trauma calls involve motor vehicle accidents which constitutes 70 to 80 percent of their responses, with 444 calls in 2017, 645 in 2018, and 373 trauma calls in the first eight months since January this year. (Juancho Gallarde)
