One step at a time

One step at a time

This week, my weekly deadline came in the midst of a busy schedule. Trying to muster enough words, I sit here in front of the window at blue skies and bare-branched trees. It has been so much harder to get out and run, trying to beat the clock daily just to get things done.

One step at a time, I tell myself.

I force running time in my schedule in anticipation of running a 50K in Cebu next month.

The thought of running the race unprepared, untrained, without putting in the miles propels me out that door, and into the cold.

I had run full marathons that way in the past, and it was painful. Angry and mad at myself for going unprepared.

So I am determined to make it better this time. But, I think time and weather are conspiring against me. I am already behind, and race day is fast approaching.

The idea of not running the race did cross my mind once but frankly, I am not in the habit of quitting in the middle of something.

Just like in life, we aim for our goals, and so many times, we fall short. But it doesn’t mean that we just stop and give up.

We keep going. We keep reaching for it because our soul, our very being strives for it.

We may have had seasons when it seemed like we had given up, but for many of us, it was only winter.

There was always a spring that woke us up. That awakened the dreams, and we were back on track to reaching those goals again.

So I probably will fall short of my training goals…but since I have committed myself, it is full speed ahead for race day.

I continue to pound the pavement just to get in some mileage.

Lao Tzu said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Be encouraged in whatever you do today. There is always a spring at the end of winter, a mountain after a valley, and trials always pass…

One step at a time.
