SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA– Silliman University attains its 111th year of Christian education this coming August 28. It is a triple 1 for Silliman.

Ever since in 1901, it has always been one God, one Son, one Spirit. One way, one truth, one life. One faith, one hope, one love. It is the power of one. There can be only one Silliman. Beside the sea in Dumaguete City is Silliman University.

111. Triple 1 symbolizes the Holy Trinity. Three persons in one God. 1x1x1 = 1. God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit appearing on the same page of the Holy Bible one defining moment in time during the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. The energy flow from the Father in Heaven and the Holy Spirit to Jesus is the essence of the theme of this year’s celebration. Empower me, Spirit of the Living God. Essence precedes empowerment. With free will intact, a Sillimanian is exposed to the Christian world-view that Jesus is the way, truth, and the life. To have faith, hope and love remains the student’s choice and free will. The idea of grace is planted. That the Amazing Grace Jesus is sufficient for anyone, that His power is made perfect in one’s weakness.

Last Thursday, SU President Dr. Ben S. Malayang III exalted the zeal and dedication of the 108 American missionaries who served Silliman since its foundation in 1901. The occasion was the launching of the Fraternal Workers Historical Visual Displays at the Silliman Library.

Looking at the arrow of time, Dr. Malayang stated “the soul of Silliman University remains in the past.” To the President, these fraternal workers offered the students opportunities to strengthen their faith by developing their competence and character.

The past, the present, the future. To justify, to sanctify, to glorify. That is the seal of a true Sillimanian–primed to embrace and set apart for eternity.

Feeling oneness with their Alma Mater, the Sydney Sillimanians in Australia join forty duly recognized alumni chapters all over the world to greet SU in celebrating its 111th Founders Day.

The Sydney Chapter President Alice Dumlao personifies the Sydney Sillimanians’ presence in the celebration. In designing the chapter’s greetings as published in this weekly paper the Dumaguete Metropost, Clarence Cabanag emblazons it with this declaration. One, one, one. We are one with Silliman. The pronouncement serves as an affirmation to the Sydney Silllimanians’ intent and desire to bid for the holding of the SUACONA’S Sillliman Tipon 2015 in Australia.
