A rebel returnee has claimed that there are only about 21 armed fighters of the NPA crisscrossing the boundaries of the two Negros provinces.

This was revealed during the meeting of top Visayas military and police officials in Dumaguete last week.

Brig. Gen. Romeo Labador, deputy commander of the Central Command, said this information that was shared by the rebel returnee also coincides with the intelligence information gathered from the field.

“Negros Oriental will be declared an insurgency-free province in the next few months,” Labrador said.

Labador said the Visayas is still considered the most peaceful and orderly region in the country, and that the insurgency campaign is gaining headway, with the arrest of the Tiamzon couple, reportedly the top two leaders of the NPA.

He called on the rest of the cadres to surrender and join the mainstream society since they have already suffered a major setback and a tremendous decrease in their strength. (PNA)
