A season-long training on organic vegetable production will benefit at least 30 farmer-participants in Dumaguete, according to City Agriculture Officer William Ablong.

The season-long training on organic vegetable production at Bgy Banilad was launched July 22.

The Office of the City Agriculturist, in collaboration with the Agricultural Training Institute, the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office, and the Department of Agriculture organized the harvest festival which will end on Oct. 14, Ablong added.

Some 30 farmer-participants, Banilad Barangay Capt. Bana, City Council Chair on Committee on Agriculture Atty. Manuel Arbon, City Agriculture & Fisheries Council Chair Ed Lecciones, Assistant Provlincial Agriculturist Dr. Jacinto Silot, are among those attending the training.

The three-month training — with topics ranging from sowing the seeds to harvesting — is funded by ATI.

Resource persons are technical personnel from the Office of the City Agriculturist, PAO, ATI, and DA, Ablong said.

The training is under the Farmer Field School, on organic vegetable production and hands-on training where participants learn by doing land preparation and clearing of the farm site, natural fermented solution making, organic pesticide processing, field lay- outing, cultural management practices, seed sowing in seed boxes, basal application of organic fertilizer and transplanting, among others, he added.
