Foundation University recognized its outstanding student athletes at the annual Athletic Commencement on Friday, March 14, at the Sofia Soller Sinco Hall.

A number of awards were presented to the athletes, including the Jacket Award, the Picture Award, and other individual team recognitions.

The Jacket Award is presented to all athletes who have been members of the varsity team for at least two years and have joined major competitions like the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) and the University Games (UniGames) among others.

According to Dr. Aparicio Mequi, director the University’s Institute of Youth Sports for Peace, the ceremony is an opportunity for the university to pay special tribute to all athletes–both former and current–for the outstanding efforts they have shown in all sports competitions they have participated in and for graduating college students to share the excitement and importance of their athletic and academic accomplishments with faculty, fellow graduates, family and friends.

“However, to make the occasion even more fun and exciting, the University included the grade school and high school athletes and their parents in the 2014 athletic commencement,” said Mequi.

For the past years, the University has already honored athletes who have excelled in all competitions they have joined. For instance, the FU Men’s Volleyball Team who advanced to the championships against the Far Eastern University in the 2010 UniGames and had brought honor and pride to the entire FU community.
