The Department of Labor & Employment in Negros Oriental has distributed more than P82.19 million in Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TuPaD) funds for the first half of this year.
DOLE-Negros Oriental Provincial Director Ma. Teresa Tanquiamco told the media on Monday that these funds were granted to a total of 14,351 beneficiaries across the Province.
“We disbursed more than P82 million in TUPAD funds from Jan. 1 to June 30 to different beneficiaries identified and recommended through the offices of the Congressmen or the local government units,” Tanquiamco said.
The financial assistance equivalent to 10 days of work based on an area’s minimum daily wage is given to displaced workers, victims of calamities, seasonal workers, underemployed, and individuals/families in conflict situations, among others, she said.
The funds allocated for the first two quarters of the year for the TUPAD program in the Province had already been maximized, she added.
She said a midyear performance assessment is ongoing to determine how much will be allocated by the national government for TUPAD program in Negros Oriental and the Central Visayas region.
While still awaiting notice from the national government, there are pending applications for the community-based assistance package, the DOLE provincial chief said. (PNA)
