The Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM), is holding a fund-raising run next Sunday, July 24, to promote its advocacy on exercise and the welfare of the disabled.
The event, called Move, is an acronym for “Making Ourselves Vigilant to Exercise.”
Dr. Lynn Olegario, chair of the Dumaguete 2011 PARM MOVE, said this activity combines a Run for exercise awareness of the community with a fund raising activity for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The fund will be used to help in the hospitalization expenses and medical treatment of indigent PWDs. This project has already benefitted 24 PWDs from the Visayas, Olegario said.
She said the July 24 run is part of the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDPRW). This is a 5k/3k Fun Run Open Category (Male and Female) and 3K for Differently-abled Children (CWD’s).
The run will start and finish at the Quezon Park. Gunstart is at 5:30 am. The race director is Mr. Paultom Paras of the Metro Dumaguete Roadrunners Club (MDRC).
Olegario is encouraging everyone to participate in the fun run for the benefit of the persons with disabilities.
This Fun Run is also co-sponsored by the Silliman University Physical Therapy Student Association (SUPTSA) of the Institute of Rehabilitative Sciences.
Established in 1974, the PARM is composed of medical doctors called Physiatrists, specialized and trained in the field of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. PARM Visayas (PARM Vis), is the first regional chapter of PARM, recognized in 2005.
