The Provincial Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Council in Negros Oriental said it did not join the mandated nationwide simultaneous earthquake drills on April 21 due to the ongoing series of evaluations being conducted for the establishment of the Negros Island Region.
According to Information Officer Adrian Sedillo, PDRRMC OIC, they failed to prepare for the drill because of their focus on NIR.
The national government conducted April 21 at 9 a.m. its 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. It was aimed to inform and empower the community on safety precautions during an earthquake.
Sedillo said they will set an earthquake drill on the second quarter of 2016 to comply with the requirements of the national government.
He said the Province had earlier conducted an earthquake drill since the NDRRMC had ordered all local government units to conduct drills every quarter.
Sedillo said the Negros Oriental DRRMC is under evaluation due to the Seal of Good Housekeeping mandate. One of the essential areas that must be complied is on the Disaster Preparedness.
Negros Oriental has experienced disasters like typhoon Sendong in Dec. 17, 2011 and the strong earthquake on Feb. 6, 2012. (PNA)
