PEHM majors of Foundation University petitioned for the issuance of an ordinance in the City to serve half-cup rice servings in all food establishments.
Led by Mr. Japeth Regino, past president of the FU PEHM organization, gathered 1,122 signatures for the petition on the ordinance and submitted this petition to city councilors Peter Catan, Jose Victor Imbo, Franklin Esmena, Jr, and Manuel Patrimonio, last Aug 13, 2014.
The signatories were students of SU, NORSU, SPUD, NOHS, City High, Don Bosco, Asian College, AMA, STI, Balugo National HS among other schools and colleges in the Metro.
Aside from students, housewives, teachers, gasoline station attendants, businessmen, farmers, vendors, fishermen, carpenters, sales persons, food service crews, call center agents, DJ hosts, and media personnel also signed for a complete showing of the collective effort towards rice conservation.
As early as 2006, FoundationU has already spearheaded rice conservation awareness activities and initiatives and in the process, has influenced the government’s national rice conservation campaign.
Since 2010, the main cafeteria displays a streamer announcing it serves half-cup of rice.
