Two students of Piapi High School attended a three-day acting and filmmaking workshop of the Students’ Independent Film Awards held May 28-30 at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.

Incoming junior students John Rey A. Manila and Franco C. Babor together with almost 200 participants from all over the country participated in the said workshop. The participants were trained on script writing, acting, directing, and video editing. Facilitators of the activity are Dave Cecilio who directed the award-winning film Botcha and various independent films, Allan Oguis, a theater actor and director for children independent films, and Ms Bulak Yntal who is a college professor and part-time actress in the local scene.

“The activity was really an experience for us since we were able to meet some of the best directors in the country today,” said Franco C. Babor, one of student-participants. Also in the workshop is teacher Claudio A. Sun Jr.

The participants were asked to make a three-minute short film during the culmination of the activity. During the pre-annual awards night, Babor and Manila were nominated Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively. Sun was also nominated Best Director. The group’s short film won Best Picture among 9 entries.

Spearheaded by the Sectoral Anti-Poverty Movement Philippines Inc., the SINDI Film Awards is implemented in cooperation with DepEd, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., UP Film Institute, and the National Youth Commission. (PR)
