Tabok, a film about a young boy who painstakingly persevered to go to school despite his economic condition, was chosen as a national finalist in the Students’ Independent (SIndi) Film Annual Awards.
This filmmaking competition provides an avenue for high school students to nurture their creativity and shared their views, while introducing the possibility of cinema as a tool for empowerment. It also aims to inspire a generation of filmmakers who will, one day, create films that will revitalize the social and cultural fabric of our society.
Finalists and grand winners from 17 regions will receive cash prizes and awards, as well as college scholarships in pursuit of a film degree.
The film which won the most number of awards, including Best Festival Picture, at the DepEd Dumaguete AngChada Awards is the official entry of the Division of Dumaguete City to the annual search. It was created by sophomore students of Piapi High School namely: John Rey Manila (adjudged Best Director), Franco Babor, and Aniceto Lacson Jr. Film coach is teacher Claudio Sun Jr.
Spearheaded by the Sectoral Anti-Poverty Movement Philippines Inc., the SIndi Film Awards is implemented in cooperation with DepEd, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., UP Film Institute, and the National Youth Commission.
The awards night is scheduled on April 22 at the UP Film Institute Adarna Theater in UP Diliman. (PR)
