Over 100 Public Information Officers (PIOs) from Central Visayas will gather in Dumaguete City from Sept. 4 to 6 for the 26th regional conference of the Regional Association of Development Information Officers in Region 7 (RADIO-7).
The purpose of the annual conference is to enhance the capabilities of PIOs as communicators of significant government programs and initiatives by offering them insights on specific subjects aligned with the conference theme.
The Association of Negros Oriental Public Information Officers (ANOPIO) will be hosting this year’s RADIO-7 convention.
“We are proud to host the annual RADIO-7 Convention, which serves as a platform for us to engage in constructive discussions with senior government officials, gain their perspectives on various topics, and address specific issues. As communicators, we must receive information directly from the source to effectively disseminate accurate and truthful information,” stated Risty “Jojo” Villahermosa, president of RADIO-7 and ANOPIO.
“The convention also plays a vital role in equipping PIOs with the skills needed to excel as public communicators. This year, we are focusing on the PIO’s role in promoting peace and development, as well as tourism development. It is also a chance for us to demonstrate the warm hospitality of Negros to our regional neighbors,” he further explained.
The theme for this year’s convention is Communicating the Government’s Peace Agenda to Advance Sustainable Tourism Development and Beyond.
I believe, there are countless threads woven together to create a cohesive and prosperous society. Among these, the role of PIO stands out as a critical yet often underappreciated function. These professionals are the bridge between the government and the public, ensuring that information flows seamlessly, fostering trust, and promoting transparency.
