The national government through Congress under the General Appropriation Law has appropriated P100 million exclusively for the Metro Dumaguete Diversion Road.
Progressive economy is what Dumaguete is headed for! High-rise hotels, food chains, gas stations are cropping up, and other infrastructure projects are indicative of a tremendous economic growth in the City.
The sad fact, however, is that our streets and City roads seem to be getting smaller due to the influx of vehicles coming from all over the Province, causing traffic congestions in entry/exit points to/from this capital city.
I can only surmise City Planning office back in the old times miscalculated Dumaguete’s capacity for growth like what we are enjoying now.
Even the drainage canals that we inherited from the olden days are now the headache of the present generation. Our drainage, according to Mayor Chiquiting Sagarbarria, cannot accommodate the volume of heavy rainfalls as recently experienced in some areas of the City, rendering them flooded knee-high.
To solve the problem, a huge amount is needed to upgrade our drainage system for which the City government continues to look for funding.
Thank God the conception of a Diversion Road connecting Sibulan, Valencia, Bacong, and Dumaguete City is now a reality. P100 million is now in Dumaguete for this project which is believed to decongest heavy traffic and to give us ease and comfort in travelling as well.
