The Provincial Board of Negros Oriental has appropriated P3.1 million for the yearly salaries of five consultants to Gov. Roel Degamo and seven community affairs officers for the various sectors in the Province.

Named as Provincial Consultants earning P26,256.80 per month are Licerio Napao on Sports Development; Atty. Arturo Umbac on Disaster Preparedness, Management Relief and Mitigation; Celia Fe Gamo as part-time tourism operations officer; Engr. Dominador Dumalag.Jr. on Development Management and Juvilo Napao on Social Marketing.

Earning P22,214 per month as newly-hired CAO IIIs are former Siaton Mayor Emil Vincent Arbolado, former Provincial Administrator Paulino Honculada, Former Provincial Attorney Erwin Vergara and Silliman University Extension Director Dr. Nichol Elman.

Atty. Rommel Erames has a new job as Community Affairs Officer II with a monthly salary of P18,292; Andrew Amaro, hired as a Community Affairs Officer I will get a monthly pay of P14,198 while former journalist David Bryan Cortez will be getting P11,636 per month as Community Affairs Assistant.

Board Member Erwin Michael Macias made the recommendation to approve the request of the Office of the Governor, which was unanimously approved by the members of the Provincial Board during its regular session last Tuesday.

The Provincial Board’s approval was delayed by several weeks because the Office of the Governor initially did not submit the names of the appointees along with the request for their salaries.

The Board Members insisted on knowing the names before they acted on the request. Board Member Miguel Angel Teves said their insistence to know the names of the appointees is only for the sake of transparency because the public deserves to know.

Board Member Macias also stressed the need to remind the Office of the Governor to immediately submit the complete official documents and complete lists of the rehired consultants for proper documentation. (PNA/Maricar Aranas)
