Philippine National Police authorities in Negros Oriental have seized close to P14 million worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu since January this year.

An updated report from the PNP provincial office showed that a total of one kilo and 177.42 grams of “shabu,” with an estimated value of P13,896.007 based on the Dangerous Drugs Board pricing, were confiscated by police operatives in separate anti-illegal drugs operations, said Insp. Ryan Jay Orapa of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group.

Also, the police conducted a total of 171 anti-illegal drugs operations and arrested 220 people provincewide from January to the present, Orapa added.

The police also seized 25.79 grams of marijuana.

Police have stepped up anti-illegal drugs operations in Negros Oriental this year following a directive from the PNP Region 7 director in line with his priority program against prohibited drugs.

Meanwhile, proper charges were filed against two persons from Bindoy, Negros Oriental who were arrested recently for alleged illegal drugs possession.

Arrested for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act were Mary Grace Maxino and Ronie Manunag of Barangay Domolog, Bindoy.

During the search last August 14, Bindoy police operatives confiscated suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P17,700.

The search warrant was issued by Judge Candelario Gonzalez of the Regional Trial Court Branch 45 in Bais City, Negros Oriental (PNA)
