The biggest bulk of the confiscated firecrackers came from Sibulan amounting to P25,000 through the initiative of the Provincial Intelligence Branch who got the information the firecrackers were bought from a stall in Dgte.

NORPO Provincial Director Police Col. Julian Entoma said, the police also confiscated more than P5,000 worth of firecrackers in the hinterland barangay of Pacuaan in La Libertad not because of the prohibition but because the dealers had no permits. The rest come from the municipalities.

Entoma said the police may not have received information about victims of the firecracker explosion, but was told by representatives from the Department of Health that three individuals were brought to the hospitals for minor burns.

The PNP provincial office said the Sta Catalina Police Station had no accomplishment report regarding confiscation of prohibited firecrackers but one was reported to have been hit by a firecracker.

The three incidents of firecracker victims are happened in Dauin, Dumaguete, and Bais.

Meanwhile, Entoma also reported that no single incident of indiscriminate firing happened during Christmas and the New Year, aside from one in Dauin which he said is a case of “discriminate” firing when one person was trying to immobilize another believed to be deranged who tried to attack them, while responding to a call for assistance.

Entoma said two police officers who responded to the alarm will be given commendations.

He congratulated police officers and men under his command for being professional, even putting tapes on the muzzle of their guns. He said no one has violated the campaign Iwas putok, iwas putol hanapbuhay.
