The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental is spearheading a solidarity ride around the Province on March 6 for motorcycle and bike enthusiasts to campaign for safe national and local elections on May 9.
In an interview on Thursday, Lt. Col. Ruben Verbo Jr., head of the Police Community Affairs & Development Unit and public information officer of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, said the activity, dubbed Ride for S.A.F.E. (Safe, Accurate, Fair Elections) Pilipinas, will be held in collaboration with the Commission on Elections and the Philippine Army.
The event slated March 6 will cover a 564-kilometer loop around the Province, starting from Dumaguete, going north to Canlaon City, down to barangay Mabato in Ayungon town, pass through Mabinay, down to Bais City and Tanjay City, then right to Pamplona all the way west-south to Sta. Catalina, then south to Basay, before heading back to the capital, Verbo said.
The ride will culminate at the Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete where finishers will be awarded a certificate of recognition.
Lt. Colonel Verbo said the event is open to all, including politicians and the candidates themselves, to support PNP’s efforts to ensure Safe, Accurate, Fair Elections (S.A.F.E.)
Interested groups of motorcyclists and bikers can register at any police station in the Province for a registration fee of P500/rider, inclusive of a SAFE jersey. (Judy F. Partlow/PNA)
