The Philippine Red Cross Negros Oriental will distribute shelter repair kit rehabilitation cash vouchers worth P10,000 each to 110 residents of Guihulngan City, La Libertad and Jimalalud, affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

PNRC provincial administrator Louella Bael said the beneficiaries have been carefully screened and evaluated to ensure that they are not recipients of any housing program from the government or nongovernment organizations.

Priority was given to families with no permanent, or with seasonal livelihood, single parent and persons with disabilities, Bael added.

The Chinese Red Cross and the local chapter contributed P1.2 million for the cash vouchers, she added.

Bael said construction materials will also be bought from the three identified local government units to help boost the economy of these areas.

The Red Cross will also assign personnel to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the shelter repair project, Bael added. (PNA)
