The Police Advisory Council of the Dumaguete City Police station (DCPS) was finally organized Monday in simple ceremonies held at the police station.
This is in compliance with requirements for the institutionalization of the governance road map of the Philippine National Police, through the Peace and Order Agenda for Transformation and upholding of the Rule-of-Law or the PNP’s PATROL Plan 2030.
Chaired by Mayor Felipe Remollo, the vice overall vice chairman is former Negros Oriental State University president Dr. Henry A. Sojor with members coming from the different sectors in the community, namely, former city councilor Antonio Remollo as chairperson of the committee on information and technology.
Dr. Sojor chairs the committee on intelligence, operation, police community relations and investigation, Councilor Lani Ramon chairs the committee on personnel management and human resource development, Juancho Gallarde for the media and public information committee, Pastor James Macahig for the committee on integrity and ethics, Councilor Estanislao Alviola for the committee on plans, logistics, comptrollership and research and development, Atty. Jose Allan Comon of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) for the committee enhancing the effectiveness and a disciplinary machinery and retired Sr. Supt. Marciano del Mar, chairperson of the coordination of advisory council and other business groups and non-government organizations.
The other members include Atty. Nilo Ruperto and Atty. Rafael Orillana.
The PAC members will act as an advisory body to guide the Dumaguete City Police Station in realizing its vision of becoming a highly capable, effective and credible police station working in partnership with a responsive community and a supportive local government unit towards the attainment of a safer Dumaguete City to live, work and do business with.
It will also advise the DCPS in attaining its mission of enforcing the laws, prevent and control crimes, maintain peace and order, and ensure public safety with the active support of the community.
The PAC members has also pledged to provide the needed external perspectives and guidance on key issues and concerns pertaining to the PNP and act as a channel for networks to help the DCPS find solutions to problems and concerns.
Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NORPPO) deputy commander for administration Supt. Reynold Andot administered their oaths of commitment.
Among the first set of suggestions from Dr. Sojor is for the police to get the entire student population of the city for analysis as to its contribution to maintaining the peace in the city, utilize students taking up BS Criminology courses from three schools, namely, Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria (COSCA), Foundation University and Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) in different activities of the police, account and make a profile of all security agencies and their security guards including their assignments and to partner with the Philippine Red Cross.
The advisory committee was told by Supt. Atanacio blood types of all the police officers in Dumaguete are already in the database.
Sojor has also suggested for the police to partner with schools offering law courses, for a possibility of collaboration in terms of legal requirements of the police, he pointed out. Coun. Ramon who represented Mayor Remollo said the city is very supportive of the needs of the police including personnel as this is in line with the main thrust of the present administration to rid the streets of illegal drugs.
He also told Supt. Atanacio to pursue his request for 75 additional policemen for the city while Coun. Alviola who is representing the business sector said he is happy that under the present leadership of the PNP, figures are down with regards to the crime incidents while crime solution efficiency is going up.
