The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental has launched an electronic version of the Police Blotter, or an e-blotter.
This is a management tool aimed to modernize the police crime database, and the Negros Oriental PNP is the first police office to have it in the Central Visayas.
Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, PNP Region 7 director, Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, PNP provincial director, Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza, and other police officials led the launching.
The police chiefs of the five cities and 20 towns of Negros Oriental who were present received their computers and logistics for the project.
Under the e-Blotter, all crime incidents, the names of suspects, a rogue’s gallery of photos of crime suspects, and other data will be encoded and transmitted to the PNP Region 7 Office and to the national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
The project, however, is limited to the PNP, Carranza said, adding that members of the media will have to make a request with the police before any information or data is released.
Carranza said what is written in the blotter will be the same as in the electronic version since the hard copy is necessary in the filing of criminal charges.
The e-Blotter is expected to take off next week as the police have to first be properly trained on it.
Carranza said there are plans to supply all police stations with reliable Internet access and alternate means of uploading data entries during power interruptions. (PNA/JFP)
