Police in Ayungon, Negros Oriental uprooted full-grown marijuana plants in the mountainous barangay of Jandalamanon of that town Monday morning.
A police report said that Ayungon police, led by its OIC police chief, Sr. Insp. Romeo Cubo, had chanced upon the said marijuana plantation in Jandalamanon as they responded to a report of a sighting of a wanted person in the area.
Around 8:30 a.m. Monday, the police received information from one of the members of the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) of Barangay Jandalamanon on the presence of a wanted person, with a warrant of arrest, at Sitio Bulos of the said barangay.
While proceeding to verify the said report in Jandalamanon, about ten kilometers from the town proper, the team spotted the marijuana plants that were planted in “plain view”.
The police chief immediately coordinated with the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for the “marijuana eradication operation” and also called barangay officials, led by the barangay chairman Aniceto Lano, to participate and cooperate in the uprooting and cutting of the Cannabis plants.
The police uprooted 22 fully-grown marijuana plants that were planted on a slope and burned them, except for enough sample amounts for testing at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory.
The Ayungon police are still conducting an investigation to determine who owned or who was responsible for the marijuana plantation. (PNA/JFP)
