The Diocese of Dumaguete has ten new monsignors after Pope Benedict XVI had recently granted the title to the said priests.
The parish rector of Saint Cathedral of Alexandria Parish, Msgr. Julius Heruela, described his new title as the greatest gift received as he celebrated his 18 years in the priesthood vocation.
The celebration of his sacerdotal anniversary was held last Saturday with a thanksgiving mass attended by his family, close friends and religious organizations in the diocese.
The Diocese of Dumaguete is fortunate that the Holy Father has granted ten new monsignors because Rome only allows eight members or ten percent of the total number of the diocesan clergy be awarded with the title as Monsignor.
The Diocese of Dumaguete has a total 85 members of the diocesan clergy.
The title as monsignor is awarded to Vicar General Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, Episcopal Vicar of North Msgr. Albert Erasmo Bohol, Episcopal Vicar of South Msgr. Lou Bayocboc, the two rectors of the Diocese Msgr. Heruela of Cathedral Parish and the rector of Saint Joseph Seminary College Msgr. Glenn Corsiga, Msgr. Manuel Duetao and Msgr. Carmelito Torres, Msgr. Marino Ybo and the diocesan Chancellor Msgr. Thaddeu Stefano Quinit.
Msgr. Heruela said the investiture ceremony will be held on December 7 at 9 am at the Saint Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral church in Dumaguete.
He encourages all Roman Catholic lay faithful to continue praying for the members of the clergy to remain faithful in their chosen vocation, especially those assigned in distant mission areas. (PNA/JFP/Maricar Aranas)
