Agaton P. Pal, Ph.D. (left photo) was posthumously given the Filipino World War II Veterans Congressional Gold Medal Award for his heroic activities as member of the guerrilla forces in Leyte during the Second World War. Receiving the award in Chicago, USA as they also celebrated Araw ng Kagitingan, was Agaton’s son Dr. Primepares G. Pal (standing, 2nd from right) at the office of Philippine Consul General Gina Jamoralin (standing, 3rd from left).
Sociologist Dr. Agaton Pal, former dean of the Silliman University College of Arts & Sciences and Oustanding Sillimanian Awardee (for Social Science Education) in 2000, was included in the list of heroes after the Veterans Affairs Office verified the memoirs of his brother Narciso that was published in the MetroPost (http://dumaguetemetropost.com/memories-of-my-brother-p8377-692.htm) after Agaton’s death in January 2017.
